Save Instead of Open in IE

Question: I used to be able to save files from Internet Explorer, now it always tries to open them - how can I fix this?

Answer: When you download a file with Internet Explorer, it typically gives you the options to save the file or open it - along with a setting to always open that type of file. If you turn on the "Always Open" setting, it's not immediately obvious how you can turn it off.

To change this setting, in Internet Explorer, click on the "Tools" menu, then folder options. In the window that appears, click on the "File Types" tab - scroll through the list of file types until you find the one you want to change. For example, if Internet Explorer always tries to open Zip files, scroll through the list until you find the entry for Zip. Click on the file type, then click on the "Advanced" button. In the window that appears, click on the box next to the words "Confirm after download." Now click the "OK" button, and then the "Close" button, and you're finished.
