Right-Dragging

Question: How can I choose whether Windows copies or moves a file when I drag-and-drop it?

Answer: In Windows, when you drag a file from one folder and drop it into another, the default action is to move the file from the old location to the new one. Sometimes, however, you will may want to copy a file instead of moving it - fortunately, you can do this with drag-and-drop as well.

Move your mouse cursor over the file you want to copy and then click and hold the right mouse button instead of the left one. With the right mouse button still held down, move your mouse cursor over the folder where you want to copy your file - once the mouse cursor is there, you can let go of the right button. A menu will appear and give you the option to Move, Copy, or Create a Shortcut to the file. At the bottom of the menu there is also an option to Cancel if you change your mind.
