Outlook Express and SMTP Authentication

Question: How can I make Outlook login to my outgoing mail server?

Answer: Many EMail providers require a username and password in order to send messages through their outgoing mail server. Unfortunately, many EMail programs - including Microsoft Outlook - have this feature turned off by default.

To enable this feature in Outlook, first click on the "Tools" menu, then click on "E-mail Accounts." In the window that appears, click on the words "View or change existing e-mail accounts" and click the "Next" button. Click on the account that you want to modify and then click the "Change" button. Click on the button titled "More Settings" and, in the window that appears, click on the tab called "Outgoing Server." Now click on the words "My outgoing server requires authentication" and make sure that "Use same settings as my incoming server" is selected as well.

Once you've done this, click "Ok," then "Next," then "Finish."
