Answer: With Windows XP, Microsoft introduced several changes and new features. To people who are used to Windows 2000, 98 or earlier, some of these changes can be confusing. Fortunately, you can configure Windows XP to look and behave like previous versions of Windows.
To change to the "Classic" Windows appearance, click your right mouse button on a blank area of your desktop. then click the word "Properties" in the menu that appears. In the window that pops up, click on the "Appearance" tab, and then click on the drop down list under the words "Windows and Buttons." In the menu click on "Windows Classic," then click on the "Ok" button to apply the changes.
To change to the classic Windows Start Menu, click your right mouse button on the "Start" button and then click on "Properties." In the window that appears, click on the check box next to the words "Classic Start menu," and then click on the "Ok" button to apply the changes. This setting also puts the standard icons - including My Computer and My Documents - back on your desktop.
