FTP with Internet Explorer

Question: How can I connect to an FTP server with Internet Explorer?

Answer: Internet Explorer doesn't have all the features of a full FTP program, but it can be handy when you need to quicky connect to a server and download or upload a file. Unfortunately, it isn't immediately obvious how to use Internet Explorer for FTP.

To connect to an FTP server from Explorer, click in the address bar and type "ftp://" followed by the address of the server. For example, if the server is called "ftp.provider.com", you would type "ftp://ftp.provider.com" (without the quotation marks). Press your Enter key or click the "Go" button and Explorer will attempt to connect to the FTP server. If it connects successfully, you will then need to enter your username and password to login - once you've done that, you will be able to upload and download files from the server.
