Disable a Network Connection

Question: How can I disconnect my computer if I use high-speed internet?

Answer: If you have a cable internet connection, it's a good idea to disable it when you aren't using the computer. Disconnecting your computer from the internet when it's not in use helps reduce the risk of viruses and hackers. Vibe users can disconnect using the "Hi-Speed Connection Manager" software.

To disable your internet connection in Windows XP, click on your Start button, then "Control Panel," then "Internet and Network Connections." At the bottom of the window, click on the button called "Network Connections" and a list of your computer's current connections will appear - on most computers, there will be just one.

Right-click your mouse on the connection and then click on the word "Disable" - you should now be disconnected from the Internet. To turn the connection back on, right-click on it again and click the word "Enable."
